In early 2018, married couple Arin Cetin and Basak Sahin relocated from Istanbul to Tulum, intent to share Turkish cuisine with the Caribbean. Loyal Order is their vibey beachside restaurant along the hotel zone, with seating for 75 (split between daybeds and tables) and a menu of small plates that pay tribute to regional Turkish cooking.
The couple convinced chef Cenk Akkaya to make the move as well. Akkaya previously cooked at two of Istanbul’s most famous fine dining restaurants, Neolokal and Mikla, both recognized by the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
In the jungle setting, he offers a more relaxed menu, with simply prepared Turkish plates, including grilled octopus with white beans, and grilled beef kebabs with charred eggplant and red pepper puree. Besides olive oil-drizzled eats, there’s a list of cocktails mixed with fresh fruit, mezcal, and raki. If you’re lucky, you may even get the chance to partake in the occasional Turkish coffee reading.
